SkyOrbiter Successfully Done Flight Test Of Internet Drone
Last month, we had informed you about the Facebook Drone which will serve for Internet purpose and now a Portuguese firm known as Quarkson has successfully done a test flight for its Internet Drone. During this test flight, it has been observed that the drone is capable of providing Internet Access to offline and remote areas.
Similar to the Facebook Aquila Drone, this SkyOrbiter is also powered by Solar Energy. This energy is used to run these drones during the whole airborne period which could be for weeks, months or even years on end. SkyOrbiter is made to stay in air at an altitude of up to 22,000 m (72,000 ft). The test flight was taken by the smaller version, was flown at height of 330 ft (100 m), and successfully deliver the Wi-Fi signal to the ground.
According to the CEO of the company, these drones will be capable of transmitting LTE or W-iFi on the unlicensed spectrum or via Wi-Fi, LTE, 3G or 2G via a carrier on the licensed spectrum. The mass production of the SkyOrbiter will be started within a period of 4-6 months. However, the prototype is currently producing at a rate of one in every 2 months. Whereas, the SkyOrbiter LA25 takes several months to construct.
