A Japanese company named IO-Data has just released USB 3.0 external hard drives of sizes up to 3TB compatible with both Windows and Mac systems. The IO-Data HDCA-UT series are meant for quick backup of loads of data as well as recording of media directly from compatible HDTVs, camcorders etc. These USB 3.0 external hard drives are also backward compatible with USB 2.0 interface. The IO-Data HDCA-UT Series USB 3.0 external hard drives come in sizes of 1TB, 2TB and 3TB weighing just a fraction over 1kg. These are powered by external AC adopters and have a USB (B connector) port for data transfer. The good thing about these USB 3.0 drives is that they can be placed either horizontally or vertically. These have a working temperate range of 5-35 degree C. File system in these IO-Data HDCA-UT series hard drives is NTFS. These external hard drives measures 39 x 185 x 120 mm (WxDxH).

The IO-Data HDCA-UT1.0K 1TB and HDCA-UT2.0K 2TB hare drives are available while the HDCA-UT3.0K 3TB version will be made available by mid of May 2011. The 1TB, 2TB and 3TB USB 3.0 hard drives have prices of 12500 Yen ($154), 18900 Yen ($232) and 26400 Yen ($325) respectively.
