Qualcomm revealed its latest innovation as Sense ID, which is the next generation 3D Fingerprint technology. This new technology by Qualcomm uses ultrasonic-based biometric authentication for the first time in the history of mobile technology. Qualcomm Sense ID is currently made with Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 425 devices; however, it can be go perfectly with the Snapdragon 400, 600 and 800 series chips.

Qualcomm Sense ID works when ultrasonic waves are sent to the solid surface like skin in this case and when the waves reflected back with a 3D image. This kind of technology would help in making the foolproof biometric system and thus reducing the risk of receiving fake fingerprints. Through the ultrasonic waves, the scanner can read fingerprints as low as pores and ridges. In this method, the chance of getting clear image is much higher than the typical 2D fingerprint technology because it doesn’t care whether your finger is moist or having some dirt on it. In this manner, no need to make physical contact with the finger plus these waves have ability to pass through aluminum, glass and sapphire; thus designer can easily integrate anywhere in the phone without any doubt.

As far as the price is concerned, Qualcomm said that its price would be competitive with the existing hardware but as the Snapdragon 400 series is designed for entry-level products, therefore we can assume that it would not be expensive anymore.
